As set out in the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, parents have the right to withdraw their child from Religious Education. Where this right is exercised, school has an obligation to discuss the RE curriculum with parents so that they can make an informed decision. Therefore, if you wish to request withdrawal from RE, please email Mr Ward, RE subject leader through the email address below to arrange a convenient time to have this discussion.

Please note:
Whilst school is required to supervise students who are withdrawn from RE, we do not have to provide alternative work for students and therefore it will be the responsibility of parents to provide alternative work to be completed.
The right to withdraw is not from RE itself, but from the RE provided by the school. Alternative provision that seeks to further the child’s knowledge and understanding of the parent’s beliefs, values and philosophies must be provided by the parent, and copies made available to the subject leader.
This time is not for private study, extra tuition in another subject, or homework.
